What Began as a Dream Has Now Become an Unforgettable Escape From Reality
For many years, the idea of a longhouse village was a shared vision for our community, and in 2012, the Old Massett Village Council secured the funding to begin construction. This was not a project built by outsiders; it was a collaborative effort brought to life by local carpentry apprentices, a cabinetry program, and our own milling crew. Most of the wood used in the longhouses was milled right here on Haida Gwaii, weaving the spirit of this land into every beam and wall.
Giving Thanks To The Foundational Support of Our Community Partners
We are honored to recognize the crucial support we received in 2012 from a group of organizations dedicated to the health and prosperity of our region. Their contributions enabled the groundwork for our mission to create employment and preserve Haida culture. This village is a testament to the belief and commitment of our partners, including the Coast Opportunity Fund, the Coast Sustainability Trust, the Gwaii Trust, Fisheries Legacy Trust, Haida Gwaii Community Futures, and Service Canada.
